April 1th, 2014

Our department was formerly Department of Virology, which was established by our chancellor, Yo Nakagawa in 1956. Department of Virology was reorganized as Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Infectious Medicine in 2007, and re-reorganized as Department of Infection Control and Prevention on April, 2014.

Our goals are the contribution to improvement of treatment for infectious diseases and training for experts concerning infection control and prevention.

Now we have many problems concerning infectious diseases, such emerging or reemerging diseases as West East respiratory syndrome (MERS), avian influenza, and West Nile fever. To solve those problems, we have to establish global infectious measures and train the expert with broad knowledge of infectious diseases. Our department has been established against the background. And we will do treatment, provision, education for experts and research including cooperative study with foreign countries, concerning infectious diseases. Also, we registered with the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) partner by World Health Organization (WHO), 2007.

We have done examining patients with infectious diseases, provision for nosocomial infection, consultation for infectious diseases, travel clinic, education and research for infectious diseases including cooperative study with institutions in Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Philippine, China and USA so far.

Finally, we hope to contribute to treatment, research and education for infectious diseases by spread of network and cooperation all over the world.
