Medical education at Dept. of Public Health

Public health in Japan is often treated as a specialized subject in medical universities and is not well known in the general public. In the Western world, however, professional education in public health has long been established and is independent of medical education. In the United States, medicine and public health are educated in graduate programs after completing a four-year college or university course. Johns Hopkins University and Harvard University established public health graduate schools that are independent of the medical school for about 100 years.Considering that the area of public health accounts for 14% of the total in the National Examination for Medical Practitionaers (revised in 2018), we will conduct our education with a view to covering the Model Core Curriculum in Medical Education (revised in 2016). In addition to the five basic required fields of study ("Epidemiology", "Biostatistics", "Social and Behavioral Sciences", "Health Administration and Medical Management", "Occupational and Environmental Health") specified in the Council of Education for Public Health's (CEPH) accreditation system for U.S. public health graduate school , the Graduate School offers in-depth study of each student's desired area of study.。
